Matthew 4: 19 And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me. and I will make you fishers of men.". 20 Immediately they (Peter & Andrew) left their nets and followed Him.
Thanksgiving day, after too much turkey and trimmings, I asked my 3 year old granddaughter, Tenley, if she wanted to take a walk. She enthusiastically grabbed my hand and accepted my invitation. It was getting dark and I grabbed a flashlight which she claimed and we ventured down the driveway. She reached up and said "Hold my hand," and we stepped into the street. A lot of our conversation was in response to her repeated question, "Where are we going?" which I responded to over and over, " Just down the street." Of course the flashlight was illuminating everything but the street. Every driveway we passed was a new direction Tenley wanted to explore. I convinced her repeatedly to stay in the street and with her hand in mine, she was happy to stay on track. After 15 minutes I suggested that we turn around and go home which she was not in agreement with, so the walk continued. A few minutes later we made the about face and headed back to my daughter's house. Hand-in-hand we neared the house and then Tenley dropped my hand and ran home.
Those precious minutes of that walk remind me of my walk with God. Through Jesus, God invites us to walk with Him. He walks with us, hand-in-hand, and supplies the Light to illuminate the path. My problem is that unlike Tenley, I drop His hand too frequently and venture off the path and onto the driveways off the road. But Jesus is always there when I turn back and ask Him to hold my hand. I am thankful for the gentle teaching and leading of Jesus.
